  • Flame Keepers begins

We at Discover More (an Island-based CIC) are delighted to announce the Flame Keepers project – to record the memories of people who worked at the Ronson Lighter Factory on the Isle of Wight during the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Over the coming months we will be sitting down with a handful of former workers for a relaxed chat about what it was really like to work there – the people, the stories, the laughs and the hard graft.

We aim to record those memories and people’s photos before they’re lost to the mists of time, so they can be shared with families, the wider community and future generations.

There have already been some brilliant memories shared on the Ronson Isle of Wight Facebook Group that Pat Kennedy set up, and we’d love to hear more for the Flame Keepers project.

Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF) and Creative Island, who have made this project possible by choosing to financially support Discover More and the Flame Keepers project.

Last but not least – a huge thanks to Pat – she is an essential part of this project. Her pioneering work, setting up the Ronson Facebook Page nearly fifteen years ago, first enabled people that worked at Ronson to stay in touch with each other.
